EdgeWise puts a number-shaped hole in how most of us run agents. Every step of a long trajectory goes to a frontier model, even when the step is trivial.
Today is quiet: two papers, one write-up and one talk. All of them circle the same problem. Agents are now limited by the system around the model, routing, harness, autonomy thresholds, more than by the model itself.

Crossing the Threshold: How OpenAI and Anthropic Approach Autonomy and Safety in Financial Agents — Latent Space
At AI Engineer New York, OpenAI, Anthropic and financial firms covered how much autonomy an agent gets before a human has to sign off. Read it for where they draw the line on consequential decisions. That threshold is the actual design question in any regulated deployment, and it's rarely written down this plainly. https://www.latent.space/p/crossing-the-threshold

EdgeWise: Bringing Long-Horizon Agents to the Edge via Selective Cloud Delegation
The premise: not every step in a long-horizon agent needs frontier capability, so run the easy ones locally and delegate to the cloud only when a step demands it. If you're running multi-step agents in production and paying frontier rates per step, per-step routing is the cheapest optimisation you probably haven't built. I'd read this before asking for more inference budget. https://huggingface.co/papers/2610.17560

Recursive self-improvement applied to agent harnesses. Interesting, early, not something to deploy. https://huggingface.co/papers/2610.14224

What 25 Trillion Tokens Reveal About How Developers Actually Adopt AI Agents
Brendan O'Leary argues that adoption follows trust and benchmarks barely move it. He backs this with large-scale usage data, a four-rung adoption ladder and the failure points in context construction and multi-model routing. One caveat: the title says 25 trillion tokens and the summary says 40, so check which figure is right before you quote it. https://www.infoq.com/presentations/agentic-ai-developer-trust-adoption/
If you run one agent in production, log which steps actually needed the frontier model this week. My bet is a minority of them did. That list is your routing spec, and it's a better use of a sprint than chasing the next benchmark bump.
